Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Aldara Cream (Imiquimod) is a topical treatment that helps the body's immune system fight certain skin problems. It works by encouraging the immune system to produce natural chemicals that protect the skin. Aldara Cream is useful for treating actinic keratosis, a condition caused by too much sun exposure, especially on the face and scalp. It is also used to treat superficial basal cell carcinoma when surgery isn't the best option, as well as external genital and perianal warts.
When using Aldara Cream, it's important to follow your doctor's instructions closely. This cream is for topical use only, meaning it should be applied to the skin and not to the mouth, eyes, or sensitive areas. Typically, you'll apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected area once daily before bedtime.
How often the medication is applied can vary based on the condition being treated. For example, it might be used two to five times a week for a specified duration. Before applying an Aldara Cream dose, clean and dry the area thoroughly. After application, wash your hands with soap and water to avoid spreading the medication. It's important to leave the cream on for about 8 hours, during which you should avoid showering or bathing. In the morning, cleanse the area with water to remove any remaining cream.
The active ingredient in Aldara Cream is Imiquimod.
Avoid taking or using this medication if you have a known hypersensitivity to Imiquimod or any other ingredient of the cream formulation.
The most common side effects occur at the treatment site and include redness, swelling, itching, and burning. Other reactions may involve scabbing, crusting, blistering, peeling, or skin discoloration that may not fully go away. Some people experience flaking, dryness, or thickened skin at the application area. Headaches have also been reported.
Severe skin reactions, such as erosion or vulvar swelling in females, can occur, particularly if applied near sensitive areas like the vaginal opening, potentially causing pain or difficulty urinating. If you experience skin reactions that affect your daily activities or flu-like symptoms such as fatigue, fever, or muscle aches, stop using Aldara Cream and contact your healthcare provider. They may adjust or discontinue your treatment if these side effects persist.
