Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Alunbrig (Brigatinib) is a medication used to treat adults with a type of lung cancer called metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This cancer has a specific change in a gene called anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK). Brigatinib works by blocking certain proteins that help cancer cells grow and spread. It is especially useful for patients whose cancer keeps getting worse after they have been treated with another medication called Crizotinib.
Alunbrig is an oral medication taken once daily, starting with a 90 mg dose for the first seven days, after which it may be increased to 180 mg based on tolerance and medical advice. Treatment should continue until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurs. If the medication is interrupted for 14 days or longer for reasons other than adverse reactions, resume at 90 mg daily for seven days before returning to the previously tolerated dose. Alunbrig can be taken with or without food, and patients should swallow the tablets whole without crushing or chewing them. If a dose is missed or vomiting occurs after taking a dose, do not take an additional dose; instead, continue with the next scheduled dose.
The active ingredient in Alunbrig is Brigatinib.
There are no contraindications mentioned on the drug label. However, you should not take this medication if you are allergic to Brigatinib or any of its ingredients.
The most common side effects of Alunbrig include diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and muscle pain. You may also experience a cough, high blood pressure, headaches, or difficulty breathing. Some patients report changes in vision, such as blurriness or double vision, but these symptoms tend to be manageable. Make sure to talk to your doctor if any of these side effects become bothersome.
Alunbrig can cause more serious side effects, such as lung problems, including inflammation, which may lead to difficulty breathing, chest pain, or a persistent cough. It may also cause high blood pressure and slow heart rate, which can lead to dizziness or fainting. If you experience these symptoms or notice signs of liver issues like yellowing of the skin, dark urine, or severe stomach pain, seek medical attention immediately. Regular check-ups and blood tests will help monitor for any serious reactions during treatment.
