The usual dose of Ampyra is 10 mg by mouth twice daily (every 12 hours). Do not take more than 20 mg per day unless directed by your healthcare provider.
Do not crush, chew, or open the capsules. Take them whole with or without food.
The active ingredient in Ampyra is dalfampridine.
Ampyra has drug-drug interactions with the following medications:
Use caution if you have ever had a seizure or have a seizure disorder. Ampyra -- especially in doses higher than prescribed -- can induce seizures. If you experience one while taking this medication, your doctor should stop it.
Tell your doctor if you have a history of kidney issues.
Do not take 4-aminopyridine (4-AP, fampridine) while taking Ampyra because they have the same active ingredient.
