Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Anusol is a non-prescription product used for the treatment of hemorrhoids. It is available over the counter (OTC) and can be purchased without a prescription.
Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum. They can be present on the inside or the outside of the body. Hemorrhoids are common among adults and older adults. They present with several symptoms, including discomfort, pain, redness, swelling, itching, and bleeding.
Hemorrhoids are often caused by straining during bowel movements. They are more common during pregnancy and in obese patients.
Anusol contains the medication hydrocortisone, which is a topical steroid. Steroids reduce the effects of the immune system to reduce redness, swelling, and inflammation. Anusol also causes vasoconstriction, which shrinks the swollen blood vessels.
Apply Anusol to the affected area two to four times daily, depending on the severity of the condition. Continue treatment until the hemorrhoids resolve. Occlusive dressings may be used.
Anusol is for external use only.
The active ingredient in Anusol is hydrocortisone.
