Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Atrovent (Ipratropium) is a medication that helps relax and open the airways in the lungs, making it easier to breathe. It is often used for people with lung problems like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes conditions such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. By blocking the signals that cause the airways to tighten, Atrovent can help reduce symptoms like coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing, allowing more air to flow through the bronchial tubes.
The typical Atrovent dosage is 1 or 2 puffs three or four times daily. For each dose, breathe out fully, put the mouthpiece in your mouth, and inhale deeply while pressing down on the canister to release the medicine. After inhaling, hold your breath for a few seconds to help the medication reach your airways. Follow your doctor’s instructions for the right dosage. Keep track of how many sprays you’ve used, as the inhaler has a fixed number of doses and should be thrown away after that.
The active ingredient in Atrovent is Ipratropium.
Avoid taking or using this medication if you have a known allergy to Ipratropium Bromide or any related compounds, such as Atropine.
Atrovent may cause common side effects such as headache, throat irritation, dry mouth, nausea, and dizziness. Some people may also experience cough, gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea or constipation, and vomiting. These side effects are generally mild and resolve on their own, but consult your healthcare provider if they persist or worsen.
Serious side effects include allergic reactions such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing, as well as eye-related symptoms like blurred vision, eye pain, or increased intraocular pressure, which could indicate glaucoma. Rarely, Atrovent may cause palpitations, fast heart rate, or urinary retention. If you experience severe symptoms like bronchospasm, chest pain, or difficulty urinating, stop using the medication and seek immediate medical attention.
