Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Auralgan (antipyrine, benzocaine and glycerin dehydrated) ear drops are prescribed to help soften ear wax for easier removal, and they are used with antibiotics to treat middle ear infections. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has discontinued products that contain antipyrine/benzocaine because “they have not been proven to be safe and effective.”

Use Auralgan as your doctor has prescribed. You may speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
For ear wax removal:
Instill enough solution to fill the affected ear canal. The medication should be used three times daily for 2 to 3 days before you remove ear wax.
For middle ear infections:
Instill enough solution to fill the affected ear canal. Repeat every 1 to 2 hours until you get relief from congestion and pain.
Moisten a cotton pledget with Auralgan and insert it into the opening of the ear after instilling the solution.
To avoid contamination, do not let the ear dropper touch any surface, including the ear.
Auralgan should be stored away from light at room temperature.
The active ingredients contained in Auralgan are antipyrine and benzocaine. Glycerin dehydrated is also included in Auralgan.
If you have an allergy to Auralgan or to any of its ingredients, avoid its use.
If you have spontaneous perforation of the tympanic membrane, do not use this medication.
Some, but not all, side effects associated with Auralgan include stinging and burning in the ear or redness around the ear. If you develop concerning or persistent side effects, talk to your doctor right away.
