What is a Generic Drug?

Bijuva should be taken as your doctor has directed. Any questions or concerns may be referred to your doctor or pharmacist.

Recommended Bijuva dosage: Take one capsule by mouth every evening; take with food.

Keep Bijuva away from children.

Bijuva should be stored at 20°C to 25ºC (68°F to 77ºF).

Ingredients

The active ingredients in each Bijuva capsule include estradiol and progesterone. Ammonium hydroxide, ethanol, ethyl acetate, FD&C Red #40, gelatin, glycerin, hydrolyzed gelatin, isopropyl alcohol, lauroyl polyoxyl-32 glycerides, lecithin, medium chain mono and di-glycerides, medium chain triglycerides, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl acetate phthalate, propylene glycol, purified water, and titanium dioxide are the inactive ingredients included.

Contraindications

Bijuva should not be taken by women who have any of the following:

  • Abnormal undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
  • Breast cancer or a history of breast cancer
  • Estrogen-dependent neoplasia
  • Blood clots or history of blood clots
  • Arterial thromboembolic disease (stroke and MI) or a history of these conditions
  • Known anaphylactic reaction, angioedema, or allergy to Bijuva
  • Liver disorders or disease
  • Protein C, protein S, or antithrombin deficiency, or other known thrombophilic disorders

Cautions

Bijuva contains the following FDA Boxed Warnings:

Estrogen Plus Progestin Therapy

  • The risk of blood clots, stroke, and heart attack is increased
  • The risk of invasive breast cancer is increased
  • The risk of probable dementia in postmenopausal women 65 years of age and older is increased
  • Estrogen plus progestogen therapy should not be used for the prevention of cardiovascular disease or dementia

Estrogen-Alone Therapy

  • The risk of endometrial cancer in a woman with a uterus who uses estrogens is increased
  • The risk of of stroke and blood clots is increased
  • The risk of probable dementia in postmenopausal women 65 years of age and older is increased
  • Estrogen should not be used for the prevention of cardiovascular disease or dementia

  • Before you start Bijuva therapy, inform your doctor of
    • All the medications you take
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health problems
    • Your past medical history
    • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
  • Estrogen use increases the risk of gallbladder disease.
  • Estrogen should be stopped if you develop high calcium levels, vision loss, severe high cholesterol levels, or yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes.
  • Women who are taking thyroid replacement therapy should have their thyroid function monitored.

Side Effects

Bijuva side effects include but are not limited to breast tenderness, headache, nausea, vaginal bleeding, vaginal discharge, and pelvic pain. Tell your doctor if you have bothersome or persistent side effects.
