Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Bimzelx, also known as Bimekizumab, is a medication that helps treat certain skin conditions by blocking two proteins in the body called IL-17A and IL-17F. Bimzelx is a medication given through injections under the skin. For adults with plaque psoriasis, the usual dose is 320 mg, which comes from two separate injections of 160 mg each. When starting treatment, patients receive these injections every four weeks for the first 16 weeks. After that, the injections may be given every eight weeks. However, if a person weighs 120 kg (about 265 lbs) or more, doctors might suggest sticking with the four-week schedule even after the first 16 weeks.
Bimekizumab-bkzx is the active ingredient in Bimzelx.
There are no known contraindications on the drug label. However, avoid taking or using this medication if you have a known hypersensitivity to Bimekizumab or any of its excipients.
Bimzelx frequently causes upper respiratory tract infections and headaches. Users may also encounter issues at the injection site such as pain, redness, or swelling. Common side effects include fungal infections like oral thrush, herpes simplex infections, and gastroenteritis. Additionally, patients might experience skin reactions such as small red bumps or acne and general fatigue.
Bimzelx can also cause serious side effects, particularly related to liver function and gastrointestinal health. Symptoms to watch for include stomach pain, extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, dark urine, light-colored stools, and yellowing of the skin or eyes. People with inflammatory bowel disease should be cautious of flare-ups or new symptoms like stomach pain or diarrhea. It's important to contact your healthcare provider immediately if any serious symptoms occur.
