Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
CADUET is a combination product that combines the medications NORVASC (amlodipine) and LIPITOR (atorvastatin). It is indicated for the treatment of both high blood pressure and high cholesterol. An advantage of buying CADUET is that it combines two medications that would normally be formulated in separate tablets.
The dose of CADUET is different for each person and should be taken based on how much of each ingredient the physician prescribed. CADUET is typically taken once per day and can be taken with or without food. The effects of CADUET and the individual ingredients will not be immediately noticeable, and the prescribing physician will measure blood pressure and test cholesterol to ensure the efficacy of the drug. The dose of CADUET will be adjusted by the physician based on the patient’s response.
Amlodipine
Amlodipine is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, or high blood pressure. The normal dose of amlodipine starts at 5 mg once daily and can be increased to a maximum of 10 mg once daily. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. It works by slowing the influx of calcium ions into cardiac and vascular cells. Decreased transmembrane transfer of calcium ios lowers the contractile force of cardiac muscle and smooth vascular muscle, resulting in decreased blood pressure.
Atorvastatin
Atorvastatin is indicated for the treatment of high cholesterol levels and the usual dosage ranges from 10 mg daily to 80 mg daily. It works by competitively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, which is an enzyme that converts cholesterol precursors to active cholesterol molecules. Inhibition of this key enzyme during cholesterol synthesis causes a net decrease in circulating cholesterol.
The combination is used to lower both blood pressure and cholesterol in those with coronary artery disease and similar conditions. Lowering blood pressure and cholesterol has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events like stroke and heart attack.
Atorvastatin, one of the primary active ingredients in CADUET, is CONTRAINDICATED in people with active liver disease.
Those with known hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to any of the active or inactive ingredients should not use CADUET.
Atorvastatin and similar medications may cause rhabdomyolysis (severe muscle breakdown) in rare cases. Those with a history of rhabdomyolysis should consider an alternative treatment. Atorvastatin has also been reported to cause immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) in rare cases. Anyone experiencing muscle aches and muscle weakness should speak with their physician. Other rare conditions that can arise from atorvastatin include endocrine dysfunction, CNS toxicity, and hemorrhagic stroke.
Amlodipine may worsen angina or acute myocardial infarction when starting or increasing the dose. Amlodipine may also cause hypotension, which is low blood pressure that causes symptoms like dizziness upon standing.
CADUET has the same possible side effects as the ingredients atorvastatin and amlodipine separately. Common side effects may include:
The following side effects of CADUET are rare but serious. They should be reported to the physician or pharmacist and include:
When buying CADUET, a prescription is required. Prior to buying CADUET, a physician or prescriber should be consulted to ensure this is the most appropriate treatment. This medication requires that a physician monitor treatment and treatment is usually lifelong. Buy CADUET from Canada Drugs Direct to receive the product at home for a great price and no wait in the pharmacy.
