The instructions that come with your Caverject prescription should be read carefully. If you have any questions or concerns, speak with your doctor or pharmacist.
Use Caverject as instructed by your doctor. The first dose is to be administered in your doctor's office. How to prepare and inject Caverject should be taught to you by your healthcare provider before you administer it for the first time. How much you should inject and when will also be told to you by him or her.
Use of Caverject should not exceed 3 times a week.
Do not use Caverject more than once within 24 hours.
Rotate injection sites with each use of Caverject.
Each dose is single-use. Properly dispose of the remains of the dose and injection after use.
Alprostadil is the active ingredient in Caverject. Alpha cyclodextrin, lactose, sodium citrate, and benzyl alcohol are the inactive ingredients. To balance pH levels, hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide is included in Caverject.
Do not use Caverject if you have an allergy to alprostadil or any of the other ingredients contained in Caverject.
If you have health conditions that may cause you to have an erection for more than 4 hours, you should avoid the use of Caverject. These conditions include sickle cell anemia, sickle cell trait, multiple myeloma, and leukemia.
If the shape of your penis is deformed, avoid the use of Caverject.
If you have a penile implant, avoid the use of Caverject.
An erection that lasts longer than 4 hours, deformed penis shape, low blood pressure, bleeding at the injection site, and benzyl alcohol toxicity are some possible Caverject side effects. Caverject can cause other side effects not mentioned. Immediately tell your doctor if you have side effects that bother you or will not go away.
