What is a Generic Drug?

Ingredients

Cobimetinib is the active ingredient in Cotellic.

Microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol 3350, and talc are the inactive ingredients included.

Contraindications

Cotellic does not have any contraindications per the most recent Prescribing Information.

Cautions

  • Inform your doctor of the following before you start taking Cotellic:
    • All the medications you take, including prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and supplements
    • Any allergies you have
    • Any current health problems you have
    • Your past medical history
    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Cotellic contains the following warnings and precautions:
    • New cancer development
    • Bleeding that is major
    • Heart muscle disease
    • Skin rashes that are severe
    • Retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, or other eye problems
    • Liver issues
    • Muscle tissue breakdown that leads to the release of substances in the blood that can cause damage to the kidneys
    • Photosensitivity that is severe; therefore, it is recommended that you avoid exposure to the sun
    • Fetal harm; females of reproductive potential should be advised to use effective contraception while being treated with Cotellic and for 2 weeks after taking the last dose of treatment
    • Breastfeeding should be avoided

Side Effects

Cotellic side effects in patients with unresectable or metastatic melanoma include but are not limited to diarrhea, photosensitivity, nausea, fever, vomiting, abnormal labs (increased GGT, CPK, and liver enzymes and decreased phosphorus, sodium, and lymphocytes).

Cotellic side effects in patients with histiocytic neoplasms include but are not limited to acne, skin conditions, diarrhea, infection, fatigue, nausea, swelling, dry skin, skin rash, itching, indigestion, vomiting, shortness of breath, urinary tract infections, anemia, and abnormal labs (decreased sodium, potassium, calcium, lymphocytes, and leukocytes and increased CPK, creatinine, and liver enzymes).
