What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Description

Cyltezo (adalimumab-adbm) is medication that is administered via a subcutaneous injection (underneath the skin) for the treatment of:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Juvenile idiopathic arthritis
  • Psoriatic arthritis
  • Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Plaque psoriasis
  • Hidradenitis suppurativa
  • Uveitis

Cyltezo single-dose prefilled pens come in 40 mg/0.4 mL and 40 mg/0.8 mL.

Cyltezo single-dose prefilled syringes come in 10 mg/0.2 mL, 20 mg/0.4 mL, 40 mg/0.4 mL, and 40 mg/0.8 mL

Directions

Cyltezo should be administered as your doctor has instructed.

You or a caregiver should receive instructions by a healthcare provider on the proper storage, preparation, administration, and disposal of Cyltezo. The medication should be administered via a subcutaneous injection in the thigh or abdomen. Injection sites should be rotated with each injection. Avoid injecting in skin areas that are tender, bruised, red, or hard.

Never share products, needles, or syringes with other people.

Ingredients

Adalimumab-adbm is the active ingredient in Cyltezo.

Glacial acetic acid, polysorbate 80, sodium acetate trihydrate, trehalose dihydrate, and Water for Injection are the inactive ingredients.

Contraindications

There are no contraindications to Cyltezo per the most recent Prescribing Information.

Cautions

  • Cyltezo is associated with the following FDA Boxed Warning:
    • Increased risk of tuberculosis (TB), bacterial sepsis, invasive fungal infections, infections due to other opportunistic pathogens, and other serious infections that can result in hospitalization or death.
    • Cyltezo should be stopped if a patient develops a serious infection or sepsis while receiving treatment with the medication.
    • A latent test for TB should be conducted, and if positive, patients should start receiving treatment before they begin Cyltezo.
    • Each patient should receive monitoring for active TB while they are being treated with Cyltezo, even if they had a negative initial latent TB test result.
    • Lymphoma and other malignancies–some of which caused death–have occurred in children and adolescents who were being treated with TNF blockers including adalimumab products.
    • Post-marketing cases of a rare type of T-cell lymphoma called hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma (HSTCL) have occurred in adolescents and young adults with inflammatory bowel disease who were being treated with TNF blockers including adalimumab products.
  • Before Cyltezo is initiated, the following should be discussed with your doctor:
    • All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health issues
    • Your past medical history
    • Your status of pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Cyltezo is associated with the following warnings and precautions:
    • Infections that are serious
    • Fungal infections that are invasive
    • Malignancies
    • Hypersensitivity reactions that are serious or anaphylaxis
    • Hepatitis B virus reactivation
    • Demyelinating disease
    • Reduction in white cell counts
    • Heart failure that develops or gets worse
    • Lupus-like syndrome

Side Effects

Cyltezo side effects include but are not limited to infections, reactions at the injection site, headache, and rash.

Immediately contact your doctor if you experience bothersome or persistent side effects.
