What is a Generic Drug?

Directions

Dissolve the Cystadane powder in 4 to 6 ounces (120 to 180 mL) of water, juice, milk, or formula. You may also mix the powder with food. The appropriate dosage depends on the patient's medical condition and response to treatment, and only the doctor can set the exact amount. A typical dosage may be 6 grams per day taken as 3 grams twice daily.

It's important for patients to use the scoop provided to ensure they are taking the correct dosage. Administer the solution immediately after mixing to ensure proper intake. Follow your doctor’s instructions closely to maintain the treatment routine.

Contraindications

Cautions

  • Be aware of the risk of cerebral edema, a serious complication associated with high methionine levels in patients treated with Cystadane.
  • Your response to Cystadane may need to be monitored. The treatment may be adjusted based on methionine concentration levels to prevent potential adverse effects.

Side Effects

Cystadane oral powder side effects may include nausea, discomfort in the stomach, and diarrhea. Some patients might notice a bad taste or odor from the medication, and a few have reported minor psychological changes. There’s also a rare report of a patient accidentally inhaling the powder.

More serious concerns with Cystadane may include severe cerebral edema and high methionine levels in the blood, which have occurred within weeks to months of starting the medication. These serious conditions have been reversible after stopping Cystadane. Patients affected typically had very high plasma methionine concentrations.

Other less common but serious effects include anorexia, mood disturbances such as agitation or depression, sleep problems, and skin reactions like hives or unusual odors. There have also been reports of dental issues, vomiting, hair loss, and urinary incontinence. If you experience any severe symptoms, it's important to seek medical attention promptly.
