What is a Generic Drug?

Directions

Detrol should be taken as prescribed.

Recommended initial Detrol dosage: 2 mg by mouth twice daily. The dose may be decreased based on how well the patient responds to and tolerates the medication. The recommended dose is 1 mg by mouth twice daily in patients with significant liver or kidney dysfunction or patients who are currently receiving medications that are strong CYP3A4 inhibitors.

Ingredients

Tolterodine tartrate is the active ingredient.

Colloidal anhydrous silica, calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, cellulose microcrystalline, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, sodium starch glycolate (pH 3.0 to 5.0), stearic acid, and titanium dioxide are the inactive ingredients included.

Contraindications

Do not take Detrol if you have an allergy to any of its ingredients or to fesoterodine fumarate extended-release tablets, or if you have urinary retention, gastric retention, or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma.

Cautions

  • Before you begin treatment with Detrol, tell your doctor about:
    • All the medications you take, including prescription and nonprescription medications
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health conditions
    • Your past medical history
    • Your status of pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Detrol is associated with the following warnings and precautions:
    • Anaphylaxis and angioedema that necessitates hospitalization and emergency medical treatment
    • Urinary retention and gastric retention risk
    • Exercise caution in patients with decreased gastrointestinal motility.
    • Exercise caution in patients receiving treatment for narrow-angle glaucoma.
    • Central nervous system effects such as dizziness and drowsiness; do not drive, operate machinery, or participate in other potentially hazardous activities until you know the medication affects you
    • Exercise caution in patients with myasthenia gravis.
    • Potential effects on QT prolongation

Side Effects

Detrol side effects may include but are not limited to dry mouth, chest pain, fatigue, headache, flu-like symptoms, dizziness, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, painful urination, dry skin, joint pain, eye problems, drowsiness, weight gain, and infection.
