What is a Generic Drug?

Zonalon (doxepin hydrochloride) Cream, 5%, is a topical cream prescribed to manage moderate itching for up to 8 days in adults with atopic dermatitis or lichen simplex chronicus.

Directions

Zonalon Cream should be used as prescribed. Carefully read the medication guide for further usage instructions.

Recommended dosing: Apply a thin layer of Zonalon Cream four times a day with at least 3 to 4 hours between applications. Do not use it for longer than 8 days. Do not get the cream in your eyes.

Keep Zonalon Cream stored below 27°C (80°F).

Ingredients

Doxepin hydrochloride is the active ingredient.

Sorbitol, cetyl alcohol, isopropyl myristate, PEG-10 glyceryl stearate, PEG-100 stearate, petrolatum, benzyl alcohol, titanium dioxide, and water are the inactive ingredients included.

Contraindications

Do not use Zonalon Cream if you have an allergy to any of its ingredients, if you have untreated narrow angle glaucoma, or if you have urinary retention.

    • Drowsiness/sedation; do not drive, operate machinery, or participate in other potentially hazardous activities until you know how the medication affects you. Zonalon Cream may enhance the sedating effects of antihistamines, central nervous system depressants, and alcoholic beverages. Medications that can cause sedation may cause confusion and oversedation in elderly patients; caution should be exercised.
    • Refrain from using occlusive dressings with Zonalon Cream, as they can increase the absorption of the medication.
    • Contact sensitization can occur.

Zonalon Cream side effects may include but are not limited to drowsiness, burning or stinging at the application site, and dry mouth.
