Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Duovir-N is a prescription drug given for the treatment of HIV1 infection. It is often in combination with other treatments and is effective at slowing the progression of the disease.
Lamivudine and zidovudine are nucleoside analogs that have activity against the HIV virus. They prevent replication by incorporating into the viral DNA. Nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that works differently. It binds to the enzyme reverse transcriptase, which is critical for the replication of HIV.
The three drugs work in combination to slow the progression of HIV. If HIV attacks too many cells in the body for too long, a person can develop Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), which decreases the ability of the immune system to fight infection.
Take one tablet of Duovir-N by mouth twice daily. Do not stop taking it without talking to your healthcare provider.
This drug can be taken with or without food.
The active ingredients are lamivudine 150 mg, nevirapine 200 mg, and zidovudine 300 mg.
