What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Emerade Injection (Adrenaline Tartrate) is a medication classified as a catecholamine and sympathomimetic. It is used for the emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions, known as anaphylaxis, to foods, medications, insect stings, and bites. This auto-injector rapidly delivers a dose of adrenaline, which helps to relax muscles in the airways and tighten blood vessels. These actions help to alleviate symptoms of anaphylaxis.

Directions

To use the Emerade Injection, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the cap from the autoinjector.
  2. Press the injector firmly against the outer thigh.
  3. Hold it in place for 5 seconds.
  4. Gently massage the injection site afterward.

Administer the standard dosage based on individual needs: 150, 300, or 500 micrograms, depending on medical advice. If symptoms persist, a second injection may be given 5-15 minutes after the first one. Consult a doctor about carrying multiple devices.

Keep in mind that this medication is for emergency use only and is intended as a single-use treatment. Always follow up with medical professionals after use for further evaluation and care.

Ingredients

Adrenaline Tartrate is the active ingredient of Emerade Injection.

Contraindications

The drug label for Emerade does not list any known contraindications.

Cautions

  • Before using Emerade, make sure you provide your healthcare provider with the following information:
    • Existing health conditions
    • Known allergies
    • A list of all the medications you are currently taking
    • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
  • Do not remove the cap until you’re ready to use Emerade. Always inject it into the side of your thigh and never into your buttocks to avoid accidentally injecting it into a vein.
  • Use Emerade only in emergency situations for severe allergic reactions. After using it, make sure to get medical help right away.
  • Learn how to use Emerade correctly and teach your family or caregivers how to use it in case of an emergency.
  • If you have a lot of fat in the area where you inject Emerade, the medicine might take longer to work, and you may need a second dose.
  • Avoid injecting Emerade into your hands or feet, as it can block blood flow and might require medical treatment.
  • Emerade contains sodium metabisulphite, which can cause serious allergic reactions like anaphylaxis, especially if you have asthma. If you experience difficulty breathing, swelling, or a severe rash, seek emergency help immediately.
  • Some medications can make Emerade’s effects stronger or interfere with it. Talk to your doctor if you’re taking other drugs, especially certain antidepressants or heart medications.
  • If you’re pregnant, use Emerade only if the benefits outweigh the risks to your baby. It’s unlikely to affect a nursing baby, but consult your doctor before using it while breastfeeding.
  • After using Emerade, you might feel dizzy or weak from the allergic reaction. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you feel better.

Side Effects

The Emerade pen may cause several common side effects. These include headaches, dizziness, and trembling. You might also feel anxious or notice increased sweating. Some people experience palpitations, which is a sensation of a fast or irregular heartbeat, or general tiredness. These side effects are usually mild and often go away as your body adjusts to the medication.

Emerade may lead to serious side effects that require immediate medical attention. These include a rapid heart rate (tachycardia), irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), and chest pain. High blood pressure (hypertension) and severe difficulty breathing or wheezing may also occur. If you experience symptoms such as severe dizziness, trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or feel like your heart is racing, stop using Emerade and seek emergency medical help right away.
