Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Erleada (Apalutamide) is an androgen receptor inhibitor prescribed for the management of specific types of prostate cancer. It works by obstructing the action of androgens, which are male hormones that can promote tumor growth in the prostate. Classified as a nonsteroidal antiandrogen, it can help treat metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer and non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Doctors prescribe Erleada to control the progression of prostate cancer that is either still responsive to treatments lowering testosterone levels or that has become resistant to such treatments.

Erleada is taken orally, and patients typically swallow the tablets whole without crushing, chewing, or breaking them. The standard dosage for individuals is 240 mg once daily. Patients can take Erleada with or without food. It should be taken alongside a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analog or after a bilateral orchiectomy (removal of the testicles).
Apalutamide is the active ingredient in Erleada. The inactive ingredients may include lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, and colloidal silicon dioxide, forming the tablet's core.
No contraindications are listed on the FDA label. However, avoid taking or using this medication if you have a known hypersensitivity to Apalutamide or any component of the formulation.
Common Erleada side effects include feeling extremely tired, experiencing weight loss, joint pain, high blood pressure, rashes, hot flashes, diarrhea, decreased appetite, fractures, and falls. Patients are advised to notify their healthcare provider if they develop a rash or any other listed symptoms.
Serious side effects of Erleada can include heart disease, stroke, or mini-strokes. Patients should be vigilant for signs like chest pain, shortness of breath, speech or vision difficulties, numbness or weakness, dizziness, or balance issues. The medication also increases the risks of falls, fractures, and seizures. In addition, severe skin reactions, which can be life-threatening, involve symptoms like escalating rashes, fever, swollen lymph nodes, blisters, or peeling skin. Immediate medical attention is vital if these serious symptoms occur.
