What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Description

Erythromycin eye ointment is used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections; it is also used for the prevention of eye infections in newborn babies.

The ointment comes in a tube containing 5 mg of erythromycin per 1 gram of ointment.

Directions

Erythromycin eye ointment should be used as your doctor has instructed. Any questions or concerns may be referred to your doctor or pharmacist.

Your doctor will instruct you on the proper use of the ointment.

The erythromycin eye ointment dosage is to apply directly to the infected eye one or more times daily based on the severity of the infection.

When used for preventing eye infections in newborn babies, a 0.5-1 centimeter long ribbon of ointment should be applied into each conjunctival sac of the eye.

Ingredients

The active ingredient in erythromycin eye ointment is erythromycin. Inactive ingredients include mineral oil and petrolatum.

Contraindications

If you have an allergy to any of the ingredients in erythromycin eye ointment, you should avoid using it.
