Farxiga is an oral prescription medication used to lower blood sugar in people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It cannot be used in people with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus.

Farxiga can also be used by people with heart failure to reduce the risk of heart failure hospitalization.

Farxiga works by excreting extra glucose in your urine, which causes a reduction in blood sugar.

Directions

Take Farxiga exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The normal dose is 5-10 mg by mouth once daily.

It can be taken with or without food at the same time each day.

Cautions

Farxiga can rarely cause a condition called euglycemic DKA in some people with uncontrolled blood sugar or those undergoing surgery. Your doctor may hold the medication during surgical procedures.
