Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Gastrolyte (electrolyte and dextrose oral powder) is prescribed to prevent dehydration due to diarrhea and/or vomiting (caused by acute gastroenteritis). The medication is also used to maintain hydration and electrolyte and fluid balance in cases of diarrhea and/or vomiting (caused by acute gastroenteritis).
Gastrolyte is available in foil pouches.
Gastrolyte drink should be used as your doctor has prescribed. If you have any questions or concerns, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Dissolve the contents of the pouches in enough drinking water to make 200 mL (about 7 ounces). Make the solution immediately before eating and consume the solution within one hour of making it. After an hour, discard the remainder. Once reconstituted, the solution can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
Information concerning how much Gastrolyte to consume and how often you should consume it will be provided to you by your doctor.
The active ingredients contained in Gastrolyte include sodium, potassium, chloride, citrate, and dextrose. In the regular flavor, aspartame and silicon dioxide are the inactive ingredients.
If you have an allergy to any of its ingredients, you should not take Gastrolyte.
