What is a Generic Drug?

Description

Gavreto (pralsetinib) is an oral medication prescribed to treat adults who have RET positive (RET+) non-small cell lung cancer that has spread. It is also used to treat individuals 12 years old and older with RET+ advanced thyroid cancer or thyroid cancer that has spread who need systemic treatment and who have not had an adequate response to previous treatment with radioactive iodine.

Gavreto comes in 100 mg capsules that are to be taken by mouth.

Directions

Gavreto should be taken as your doctor has instructed. Take Gavreto on an empty stomach. You should read the information packet that accompanies your prescription for further instructions for use. You may speak with your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.

Store Gavreto at room temperature (68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C) and protect from moisture.

Ingredients

Pralsetinib is the active ingredient contained in Gavreto 100 mg capsules. Inactive ingredients in Gavreto include the following: citric acid, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), pregelatinized starch, sodium bicarbonate, FD&C Blue #1 (Brilliant Blue FCF), hypromellose, titanium dioxide, butyl alcohol, dehydrated alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, potassium hydroxide, propylene glycol, purified water, shellac, strong ammonia solution, and titanium dioxide.

Contraindications

There are no contraindications to Gavreto per the most recent Prescribing Information. Treatment options should be discussed between patients and their provider.

Cautions

  • Before you start treatment with Gavreto, tell your doctor:
    • About all prescription and nonprescription medications you take
    • If you have any allergies
    • Your medical history
    • Your current health conditions
    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • The following warnings and precautions are associated with Gavreto:
    • Possible severe or life-threatening lung problems. If you experience shortness of breath, cough, or fever, immediately tell your doctor.
    • Possible severe high blood pressure. Regular monitoring of your blood pressure is recommended throughout the course of Gavreto treatment. If you experience confusion, dizziness, headaches, chest pain, or shortness of breath, immediately tell your doctor.
    • Potentially severe liver problems. If you experience yellowing of your skin or whites of your eyes, appetite loss, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, pain on the upper right side of your stomach, sleepiness, bleeding, or bruising, immediately tell your doctor.
    • Potentially serious bleeding disorders. If you begin to experience vomiting blood or if your vomit looks like coffee grounds, you are coughing up blood, or if you have headaches, abnormal bleeding or bruising, change in speech, confusion, pink or brown urine, red or black stools, drowsiness, frequent nose bleeds, or your menstrual period is heavier than usual, immediately tell your doctor.
    • Tumor lysis syndrome. If you experience nausea, shortness of breath, vomiting, muscle cramps, weakness, seizures, or swelling, immediately tell your doctor.
    • Wound healing issues. Your doctor should be made aware of any planned surgeries. Gavreto should not be taken for at least 5 days prior to surgery. Your doctor will inform you of when you can start back on Gavreto treatment.

Side Effects

Some, but not all, side effects associated with Gavreto include muscle and joint pain, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, swelling, fever, and cough. If you have bothersome or persistent side effects, immediately notify your doctor.
