What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

The worldwide demand for protective face masks has never been higher than it is right now, and we’ve never had so many discussions about these products or comparisons between them. All of this is in response to global Coronavirus pandemic and the wishes of people to be effectively protecting themselves from the virus. And of course there’s the need to protect front line healthcare workers. The KN95 mask has the same 95% effectiveness for blocking particulates that the N95 mask does, but there are differences.

We’ll have a look at those differences when evaluating KN95 vs N95 mask, and look at where you can buy KN95 mask. But first it’s going to be best to discuss some of the realities around using a face mask to prevent virus infection, as this is going got be what most consumers will be looking to do when purchasing a coronavirus protection face mask.

Partial Protection

It’s true that the N95 mask is a very effective defense against the coronavirus, and the reason they are so in demand around the world these days is because they do prevent approximately 95% of airborne particles from being inhaled through the mouth or nose. This means that they’re vastly more effective than any type of surgical mask or fabric mask that will not block particles anywhere near as reliably.

The same can be said for the KN95 mask, as the reason it has the number 95 tacked onto the end of it in the same way is because it too will block nearly all particles. Virus molecules included.

What you need to be aware of, however, is that there’s another exposure risk for coronavirus that a face mask will do nothing to minimize that risk. The virus can enter your body through your eyes, and that’s why when you see healthcare workers these days they have some type of protective equipment over their eyes to go along with their N95 or KN95 mask.

The last thing we’ll touch on here before getting to a KN95 vs N95 mask comparison is that inhalation through mouth or nose or eyeball entry aren’t the only ways you can get this virus. It’s equally common for people to get it by touching surfaces that have the virus molecules on them, and then touching their face.

So as much as a KN95 mask or N95 version will help, you need to also be careful about where you put your hands and avoiding face touching as much as possible. Many people keep hand sanitizer with them when they’re away from home.

KN95 vs N95 Mask

The KN95 mask is a made-in-China version of the N95 mask, and KN95 masks are regulated by the Chinese government under regulation GB2626-2006 and rated to filter 95% of particles. They are similar in function to the N95 in that they create an air tight seal around the face.

One big difference between N95 masks and KN95 masks is that the KN masks have an ear loop band design for wearing the respirator while he N95 masks use a two straps attachment, one that goes around the back of the head under the ears and another that goes on the top of the head above the ears.

Some people have reported that the KN95 mask is easier and faster to put on and take off but the N95 provides a better, tighter and firmer fit. The N95 mask does provide a tighter fit and seal, and for this reason it may provide a slightly better level of protection than the KN95 mask

Lastly, the N95 masks tend to be a little pricier than the Honeywell KN95 mask or FFP2 mask. At present, the best place to buy KN95 masks is online, and usually from a retailer who is sourcing the masks from China.
