Description

Mavyret (glecaprevir and pibrentasvir) is a medication prescribed to adults and pediatric patients who are 3+ years old who have a certain chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype infection with or without compensated cirrhosis or with HCV genotype 1 infection who was previously treated with another certain therapy.

Mavyret tablets contain 100 mg glecaprevir and 40 mg pibrentasvir for oral administration. It also comes in oral pellets that contain 50 mg glecaprevir and 20 mg pibrentasvir.

Contraindications

Mavyret should not be administered to patients with moderate or severe liver dysfunction or who have had previous liver decompensation.

Mavyret should not be taken with atazanavir or rifampin.

Cautions

  • Mavyret is associated with the following FDA Boxed Warning:
    • Hepatitis B virus reactivation has been reported and has resulted in– in some cases–fulminant liver inflammation, liver failure, and death.
  • Before patients begin taking Mavyret, they should discuss the following with their doctor:
    • All the prescription and nonprescription medications they take
    • Their allergies
    • Their current health problems
    • Their previous medical history
    • If they are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Mavyret is associated with the following warnings and precautions:
    • Hepatitis B virus reactivation risk
    • Liver decompensation or failure risk in patients who have evidence of advanced liver disease
