What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Mestinon (pyridostigmine bromide) Slow-Release (SR) uses: Mestinon SR tablets are prescribed for treating myasthenia gravis.

Mestinon SR tablets come in 180 mg for oral administration.

Directions

Mestinon SR should be taken as your doctor has prescribed.

Mestinon SR is a slow-release medication, meaning that the active ingredient is released over a longer period of time.

Your doctor will determine an appropriate dosage for you to help meet your individual needs.

For further usage instructions, carefully read the medication guide that accompanies your Mestinon SR prescription.

Do not hesitate to contact your doctor or pharmacist with any questions or concerns you may have.

Ingredients

Pyridostigmine bromide is the active ingredient in Mestinon SR.

Contraindications

Patients with a mechanical intestinal or urinary tract obstruction, peritonitis, a prior reaction to bromides, or an allergy to anticholinesterase medications should not take Mestinon SR.

Cautions

  • Before you begin treatment with Mestinon SR, discuss the following with your doctor:
    • All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health conditions
    • Your past medical history
    • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
  • Mestinon SR is associated with the following warnings and precautions:
    • Patients with epilepsy, bronchial asthma, slow heart rate, recent coronary occlusion, vagotonia, hyperthyroidism, heart arrhythmias, or peptic ulcer should exercise caution when being treated with Mestinon SR.
    • High doses of Mestinon SR should not be given to patients with megacolon or reduced motility of the gastrointestinal tract.
    • Failure in clinical improvement may be indicative of underdosage, but it can also indicate overdosage; this makes it very important to be able to distinguish between myasthenic crisis and cholinergic crisis due to Mestinon SR overdose, as extreme muscle weakness can occur with both conditions; however, these conditions require different treatments.

Side Effects

Mestinon SR side effects may include but are not limited to nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; abdominal cramps; increased peristalsis, salivation, and bronchial secretions; constricted pupils; sweating; muscle cramps; hives; rash; weakness; and allergic reactions.

Immediately call your doctor if you experience bothersome or persistent side effects.

Here, you can buy Mestinon SR with a valid prescription from your doctor.
