Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Rheumatrex, known as Methotrexate, is a medication used to treat some types of cancer, serious skin problems like psoriasis, and certain kinds of arthritis. It helps by slowing down the growth of cancer cells and reducing inflammation in the body. Methotrexate comes in the form of tablets that you take by mouth. Sometimes, healthcare providers may prescribe it along with other medicines for increased effectiveness.
Rheumatrex is typically taken orally in tablet form, often prescribed at a dosage of 7.5 to 10 milligrams weekly. However, the Rheumatrex dosage depends on the condition being treated. Depending on a person’s needs and doctor's recommendations, the dosage may increase to between 20 and 25 milligrams or more per week. It’s recommended to swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water rather than breaking, chewing, or crushing them.
The active ingredient in Rheumatrex is Methotrexate.
Avoid taking or using this medication if any of the following apply:
Methotrexate commonly causes side effects such as mouth sores, low white blood cell counts, nausea, and upset stomach. These side effects may range from mild to moderate and should be monitored by a healthcare provider. Since Methotrexate affects the immune system, it may increase susceptibility to infections. Any new symptoms, like fever or a general feeling of being unwell, should be reported to your doctor immediately.
Methotrexate can lead to severe and potentially life-threatening side effects, including serious infections like pneumonia, tuberculosis, and hepatitis B reactivation. It may also cause nervous system issues, such as leukoencephalopathy, which can worsen over time and may not be reversible. Secondary cancers, including skin and blood cancers, have been associated with Methotrexate. In addition, Tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS), a rapid breakdown of cancer cells, can lead to kidney failure and heart rhythm issues. Seek immediate medical attention for symptoms like persistent fever, neurological changes, or signs of severe infection.
