What is a Generic Drug?

Micardis HCT should be taken as prescribed. Your doctor will determine an appropriate Micardis HCT dosage and treatment regimen for you based on your medical conditions and how well you tolerate the medication.

Store out of moisture between 68°F and 77°F (20°C and 25°C).

Ingredients

Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and HCT, a thiazide diuretic, are the active ingredients in Micardis HCT.

Sodium hydroxide, meglumine, povidone, sorbitol, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, maize starch, and sodium starch glycolate are the inactive ingredients included.

The 40 mg/12.5 mg and 80 mg/12.5 mg tablets also contain ferric oxide red, and the 80 mg/25 mg tablets also contain ferric oxide yellow as coloring agents.

Contraindications

Do not take Micardis HCT:

  • If you are allergic to any of its ingredients
  • If you are unable to produce urine
  • If you are diabetic and taking aliskiren

Cautions

  • Before you begin treatment with Micardis HCT, talk to your doctor about:
    • All the medications you take, including prescription and nonprescription medications
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health conditions
    • Your past medical history
    • Your status of pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Micardis HCT is associated with the following Boxed Warning:
    • Micardis HCT should be immediately stopped when pregnancy is detected.
    • Harm and death to a developing fetus can occur due to the direct action on the renin-angiotensin system.
  • Micardis HCT is associated with the following warnings and precautions:
    • Potential harm and death to an unborn baby
    • Volume and sodium depletion should be corrected before starting treatment with Micardis HCT.
    • Kidney function and potassium levels should be monitored in patients who are susceptible.
    • Clinical signs of fluid or electrolyte imbalance should be observed.
    • Hypersensitivity reactions
    • Acute myopia and secondary angle-closure glaucoma

Side Effects

Micardis HCT side effects may include but are not limited to upper respiratory tract infection, dizziness, sinusitis, diarrhea, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, and nausea.
