What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

Description

Miebo (perfluorohexyloctane ophthalmic solution) is an eye drop that is prescribed to treat dry eyes.

Directions

Use Miebo as your doctor has instructed. The medication guide that accompanies your prescription may be referred to for further information.

The recommended dose is to instill one drop into each eye four times daily.

Remove contact lenses before using Miebo eye drops. You may put them back in after 30 minutes of administration. Refer any questions or concerns to your doctor or pharmacist.

Keep Miebo stored at 15oC to 25oC (59oF to 77oF).

Ingredients

1,1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6-tridecafluorotetradecane is the active ingredient in Miebo.

Contraindications

There are no contraindications, or reasons why a person cannot use Miebo, per the most recent Prescribing Information. However, patients and their doctors should discuss treatment options.

Cautions

  • Before you start Miebo for dry eye, tell your doctor:
    • About all the prescription and nonprescription medications you use, including other eye products
    • About your allergies
    • About your current health problems
    • About your past medical history
    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Side Effects

A common Miebo side effect is blurred vision. Other side effects may also occur, so be sure to let your doctor know about any bothersome or persistent side effects.
