Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Moduretic is a prescription drug that treats high blood pressure with or without heart failure. It contains two different active ingredients. They are both diuretics that reduce the workload on the heart.
Hypertension is a chronic condition that can cause organ damage or cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke.
Heart failure is a condition where the heart cannot pump hard enough to efficiently move blood through the body.

The starting Moduretic dose is one tablet by mouth once daily. Your doctor may choose to increase the dose to two tablets by mouth every day.
Take Moduretic exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
The only available strength of Moduretic is Moduretic 5-50 mg, which is amiloride 5 mg, and hydrochlorothiazide 50 mg.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic. It causes the kidneys to excrete extra sodium, carrying fluid with it. The net effect is lower blood pressure and lower stress on the heart.
Amiloride is a potassium-sparing diuretic. It works in a similar way to hydrochlorothiazide but helps the kidneys hold onto potassium so that it isn't excreted with sodium.
Common drug-drug interactions with Moduretic can include:
Your doctor should monitor for electrolyte imbalances while you are taking this medication.
You may be more sensitive to the sun while taking this drug.
Use caution if you have a personal or family history of gout.
Tell your doctor if you have an allergy to sulfa drugs.
This is not a full list of precautions. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to learn more.
