What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Novatears is a prescription medication for evaporative dry eye disease treatment. The eyedrops lubricate the surface of the eye and aid with better lipid layer stability for the tear film so that tears will not evaporate as rapidly. The active ingredient in Novatears eye drops is Perfluorohexyloctane, an amphiphilic liquid with very low surface tension and viscosity that is superior for providing relief for dry eyes in comparison to saline liquid. It promotes better tear film thickness and lipid layer thickness.

What is Evaporative Dry Eye Disease?

Evaporative dry eye disease is a condition where tears evaporate faster than normal, and the eyeball is not properly lubricated because of it. This is due to lack of oil production in the tear film. An insufficient amount of oil in the tears means they evaporate faster. This happens when the meibomian glands on the edge of your eyelids become clogged and are not functioning properly.

Older people get this type of dry eye disease more commonly, and women are more often affected by it than men. It also affects diabetics and people with oily skin conditions more often.

What is the mechanism of action of NovaTears?

NovaTears works by spreading evenly across the surface of the eye to form a protective and lubricating layer. The key ingredient, perfluorohexyloctane, has unique spreading and wetting properties, which help to stabilize the lipid layer of the tear film, reduce tear evaporation, and maintain moisture on the eye surface.

How long do NovaTears last?

The effects of NovaTears can vary between individuals, but generally, the relief provided by a single application can last several hours. It's recommended to use the drops as needed, typically 1-4 times a day, or as directed by an eye care professional.

What ingredient is in NovaTears?

The primary ingredient in NovaTears is perfluorohexyloctane, which is a semifluorinated alkane. This ingredient is responsible for the drops' unique properties and effectiveness in treating dry eyes.

What are the side effects of perfluorohexyloctane?

Perfluorohexyloctane is generally well-tolerated, but some individuals may experience mild side effects. These can include temporary blurred vision, eye irritation, or a burning sensation immediately after application. If any severe or persistent side effects occur, it is important to seek medical advice.

How do you use NovaTears?

To use NovaTears:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  3. Hold the bottle above the eye and squeeze one drop into the pocket without touching the eye with the bottle tip.
  4. Close your eyes for a few seconds to allow the drop to spread evenly.
  5. Repeat the process in the other eye if needed.
  6. Replace the cap securely after use.

Can you get NovaTears on prescription?

In many regions, NovaTears can be obtained over the counter without a prescription. However, availability may vary by country, and it's advisable to consult with an eye care professional or pharmacist for specific local regulations.

Are NovaTears good for dry eyes?

How does perfluorohexyloctane work?
