Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Nuedexta (dextromethorphan hydrobromide and quinidine sulfate) is a prescription medication taken orally for treating episodes of laughter or crying that is involuntary and uncontrollable; this condition is called pseudobulbar affect (PBA).
Nuedexta is available in capsules for oral administration. Each capsule contains 20 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 10 mg of quinidine sulfate.
Nuedexta should be taken as your doctor has instructed.
Recommended dose: one capsule orally one time a day for 7 days, then one capsule orally every 12 hours for maintenance therapy.

Dextromethorphan hydrobromide and quinidine sulfate are the active ingredients in Nuedexta.
Croscarmellose sodium NF, microcrystalline cellulose NF, colloidal silicon dioxide NF, lactose monohydrate NF, and magnesium stearate NF are the inactive ingredients.
Patients should not take Nuedexta with quinidine, quinine, mefloquine, or any medication that can prolong the QT interval and are metabolized by CYP2D6 (e.g., thioridazine, pimozide).
Patients should not take Nuedexta if they are allergic to any of its ingredients or have a history of hypersensitivity reactions to quinidine, quinine, or mefloquine such as low platelets or liver inflammation.
Nuedexta should not be taken with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI. In addition, patients should wait 14 days after discontinuing Nuedexta before they begin an MAOI.
Patients should not receive Nuedexta if they have QT interval prolongation, congenital long QT syndrome, heart failure, a history suggestive of torsades de pointes, or complete atrioventricular (AV) block without an implanted pacemaker. In addition, patients at high risk of complete AV block should not receive Nuedexta.
Nuedexta side effects include but are not limited to diarrhea, dizziness, cough, vomiting, weakness, peripheral edema, urinary tract infection, flu, elevated gamma-glutamyltransferase, and gas.
