Omnaris Nasal Spray (Ciclesonide)

Description

Omnaris Nasal Spray is a corticosteroid medication that helps manage and relieve symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, itching, and a runny nose. It works by reducing inflammation in the nasal passages, which is a common reaction to allergens. This nasal spray falls under the category of intranasal steroids and is typically prescribed to treat both seasonal and year-round allergies.

Directions

To use the Omnaris Nasal Spray, start by gently placing the nozzle into one nostril while using your finger to close the other nostril. Then, spray the medication while breathing in through your nose. Do the same for the other nostril. Make sure not to spray directly onto the middle part of your nose (called the septum) to avoid irritation. The usual dosage for Omnaris is 2 sprays in each nostril once a day, which adds up to 200 micrograms daily. Before using it for the first time, you need to prepare the spray by pressing the pump 8 times until you see a fine mist. If you haven’t used the spray for four days, re-prime it by giving it one spray or until a mist appears.

Contraindications

Avoid using Omnaris Nasal Spray if you have a known hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to Ciclesonide or any component of Omnaris Nasal Spray.

Cautions

• Any existing health conditions
• Any allergies
• A list of all medications you are currently taking
• Whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Nosebleeds were more common in people using Omnaris Nasal Spray than in those using a placebo. If nosebleeds become frequent or severe, speak with your doctor.
• Some people using Omnaris Nasal Spray for an extended period have developed yeast infections in the nose or throat. If you notice persistent irritation, white patches, or soreness, your doctor may check for infection and recommend treatment.
• Although rare, corticosteroid nasal sprays like Omnaris have been linked to small holes in the nasal septum (the wall between the nostrils). Avoid spraying directly onto the septum. If you have recently had nasal surgery, an injury, or an ulcer in your nose, wait until healing is complete before using this medication.
• Long-term use of nasal or inhaled corticosteroids may increase the risk of glaucoma and cataracts. If you notice vision changes, increased eye pressure, or have a history of eye problems, regular eye exams may be needed.
• Omnaris may weaken your immune system, making infections like chickenpox or measles more severe. If you have never had these infections or been vaccinated against them, take extra precautions to avoid exposure. If you develop an infection, speak with your doctor right away.
• Using Omnaris at high doses or for long periods may affect your body's natural steroid production, potentially causing fatigue, muscle pain, or mood changes. If you need to stop using Omnaris, your doctor may recommend tapering the dose gradually.
• Corticosteroids may slow growth in children. If a child is using Omnaris for an extended period, regular height checks are recommended to monitor development.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of Omnaris Nasal Spray include headache, nosebleeds (epistaxis), and throat discomfort. Some patients may also experience nasal inflammation, ear pain, or sinus irritation. In children, sore throat and respiratory infections have been reported. These side effects are usually mild and improve with continued use.

Omnaris Nasal Spray may cause more serious effects, including immune system suppression, slowed growth in children, or increased eye pressure leading to glaucoma or cataracts. Rare cases of nasal ulcers, nasal septal perforation, and fungal infections in the nose or throat have been reported. Long-term use may also increase the risk of adrenal gland suppression. If you experience persistent nasal discomfort, vision changes, or signs of infection, contact a healthcare provider.
