Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
ORTHOVISC is an injectable medication prescribed to treat knee pain in patients with osteoarthritis. ORTHOVISC should only be administered by a healthcare professional in an office or clinic setting.
ORTHOVISC injection works by replenishing hyaluronan in knee joints. Hyaluronan occurs naturally and acts as a lubricant to reduce painful friction when bones rub against each other during movement.
ORTHOVISC injection should only be prescribed after other options have been tried, including nonpharmacologic therapy and mild analgesics like acetaminophen.

ORTHOVISC injection should only be injected by a licensed healthcare professional.
ORTHOVISC is injected intra-arterially into the knee once weekly for three weeks.
Treatment for longer than three weeks has not been shown to be effective. Treating for more than one course has also not been shown to be effective.
The active ingredient in ORTHOVISC is high molecular weight ultra-pure natural hyaluronan dissolved in physiological saline. Hyaluronan occurs naturally in the body and is a glycosaminoglycan sugar.
Do not use ORTHOVISC if you have a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronan or hyaluronate preparations.
Use ORTHOVISC with caution if you have a hypersensitivity to avian feathers, eggs, or other chicken products. ORTHOVISC is prepared using chicken combs.
ORTHOVISC should not be used in knee joints that have a skin disease or skin infection.
The knee may become temporarily inflamed after injection with ORTHVISC.
Some of the most common adverse reactions from ORTHVISC may include:
