  • Products must be authentic in brand and size (same manufacturer, same country of manufacture, same pack size, same strength and same quantity).
  • Products must be new. We cannot match the price of any used, short expiry or expired product.

What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Paragard is an intrauterine device (IUD) that contains copper; it is used as a birth control method to prevent pregnancy for up to 10 years.

Directions

Paragard will be inserted by a trained healthcare professional. Any questions or concerns may be referred to your doctor.

Ingredients

Copper is contained in Paragard.

Paragard’s components are not manufactured with natural rubber latex.

Contraindications

There are conditions in which Paragard should not be used, including:

  • Pregnancy or suspecting pregnancy
  • Uterine problems that cause distortions in the uterine cavity
  • Acute pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
  • Postpartum endometritis or infected abortion in the last 3 months
  • Uterine or cervical cancer or if they are suspected
  • Uterine bleeding with no explanation
  • Untreated acute cervicitis, vaginitis, or lower genital tract infections
  • Increased susceptibility to pelvic infection
  • Wilson’s disease
  • Intrauterine device that has not been removed
  • An allergy to copper or to any of Paragard’s other components

Cautions

  • Before Paragard is inserted, talk to your doctor about:
    • About all the medications you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medications
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health conditions
    • Your past medical history
    • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
  • Paragard should be removed once pregnancy is detected. Spontaneous or septic abortion, premature delivery, sepsis, septic shock, or death can occur if becoming pregnant while Paragard is in place.
  • Infections, including sepsis, can occur after Paragard is inserted.
  • Your PID and endometritis risk should be considered before Paragard insertion.
  • Uterine perforation can occur, potentially decreasing the contraceptive effects of Paragard; this may require surgery.
  • If Paragard becomes embedded in the myometrium, it may be difficult to remove and may require surgical removal.
  • Partial or complete expulsion of Paragard can go unnoticed, decreasing the contraceptive effects of Paragard.
  • Menstrual changes can occur.
  • Under certain conditions, MRIs can be safely performed with Paragard. Before you have any procedures or diagnostics tests, be sure to inform your doctor that you are on Paragard IUD.

Side Effects

Paragard IUD side effects include anemia, back ache, menstrual changes, expulsion, pain and cramping, and vaginal inflammation. Other side effects can also occur. Immediately inform your doctor of any bothersome or persistent side effects.
