Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Preparation H is a product designed to help relieve discomfort from internal hemorrhoids. It contains a vasoconstrictor called Phenylephrine, which helps shrink swollen blood vessels in the area. It can help reduce pain, itching, and inflammation related to hemorrhoids. Preparation H may also have other ingredients that help soothe and protect the skin, making it even more effective in relieving symptoms. As a suppository, it is administered directly to the area of discomfort.

When using Preparation H Suppositories to manage internal hemorrhoids, it’s important to follow some key steps. First, wash your hands before and after handling the suppository to keep everything clean. Carefully take the suppository out of its wrapper. To make it easier to insert, lie on your side, with one leg straight and the other bent toward your chest. Gently push the suppository into the rectum, pointed end first, making sure it goes in far enough to pass the muscle.
Typically, you can use one suppository up to four times a day, including in the morning, at night, and after each bowel movement. Always follow your healthcare provider's instructions. After inserting the suppository, stay lying down for a few minutes to help it stay in place and work properly. If you’re unsure about how to use it or what the right dose is for you, talk to a doctor or pharmacist.
The active ingredient in Preparation H is Phenylephrine.
Avoid taking or using this medication if you have a known hypersensitivity to Phenylephrine or any other ingredients of the product.
When using Preparation H Suppositories, individuals might encounter a range of side effects. Common side effects may include mild pain or stinging if the rectal area is sensitive or irritated. In addition, some people might experience slight discomfort during the application of the suppository.
There may be instances where more serious side effects can occur. These include rectal bleeding, severe irritation in or around the rectum, and in rare cases, increased blood pressure. Signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, hives, itching, or even swelling, particularly of the face, also warrant immediate attention. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your doctor or seek medical assistance right away.
