What is a Generic Drug?

Description

Pulmicort Flexhaler (budesonide) inhalation powder is used for maintenance treatment of asthma in adults and pediatric patients who are at least 6 years old.

Pulmicort Flexhaler contains 90 mcg or 180 mcg of budesonide as an inhalation powder.

Directions

Use Pulmicort Flexhaler as directed.

Pulmicort Flexhaler dosage: Your doctor will tell you how often you should use your Pulmicort Flexhaler.

Store Pulmicort Flexhaler in a dry area that is between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F). Keep the cover tightly in place. Store away from children.

Ingredients

Budesonide is the active ingredient in Pulmicort Flexhaler.

Lactose is the inactive ingredient included.

Contraindications

Patients should not use Pulmicort Flexhaler as the primary treatment of status asthmaticus or other acute asthma episodes where intensive measures are needed.

Patients with a severe allergy to milk proteins or to any of the ingredients in Pulmicort Flexhaler Should not use it.

Cautions

  • Before you begin using Pulmicort Flexhaler, discuss the following with your doctor:
    • All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health conditions
    • Your past medical history
    • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
  • Pulmicort Flexhaler contains the following warnings and precautions:
    • Localized infections; patients should rinse their mouth after using the Pulmicort Flexhaler
    • Pulmicort Flexhaler should not be used to treat acute symptoms of asthma.
    • Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis
    • Suppression of the immune system, leading to potential worsening of infections
    • There is a risk for impaired adrenal function when transferring from oral steroids. If transferring to Pulmicort Flexhaler, patients should be tapered slowly from systemic corticosteroids.
    • Hypercorticism and adrenal suppression
    • Decrease in bone mineral density with long-term use
    • Pediatric patients should be monitored for growth effects.
    • Glaucoma and cataracts
    • Paradoxical bronchospasm
    • Eosinophilic conditions and Churg-Strauss Syndrome

Side Effects

Pulmicort Flexhaler side effects may include but are not limited to nasopharyngitis, nasal congestion, pharyngitis, allergic rhinitis, viral upper respiratory tract infection, nausea, viral gastroenteritis, ear infection, and fungal infection of the mouth.

Immediately contact your doctor if you have bothersome or persistent side effects.
