Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
QVAR inhaler (beclomethasone dipropionate) is a prescription inhaler that can be used to reduce the severity of acute asthma exacerbations. QVAR may also be used off-label for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). QVAR is not a rescue inhaler and cannot be used to treat acute bronchospasm. Acute bronchospasm should be treated by a rescue inhaler like albuterol.
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the lungs. Symptoms of asthma can include difficulty breathing, chest pain, wheezing, and cough. Asthma can range in severity from mildly interfering with daily activities to life-threatening.
QVAR is an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), which works by reducing inflammation in the airways. QVAR works by reversing inflammation, relaxing the airways, and making it easier to breathe.
Take QVAR exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The QVAR inhaler dosage can range from person to person and be changed over time to match the severity of your symptoms.
The starting dose of QVAR is 40 mcg to 80 mcg inhaled by mouth twice daily. Your doctor may increase this dose until the control of your symptoms is improved.
The maximum approved dose of QVAR is 320 mg twice daily.
Rinse your mouth with water after inhaling QVAR and do not swallow. This helps to prevent an oral yeast infection called thrush that commonly occurs when taking oral corticosteroids.
The active ingredient in QVAR is beclomethasone dipropionate.
Do not use QVAR to treat status asthmaticus, a medical emergency.
Use QVAR with caution if you have a condition or take a medication that suppresses the immune system.
If your asthma symptoms become worse after starting QVAR, stop taking the medication and call your doctor. In rare cases, QVAR can worsen bronchospasm and the effect occurs immediately after starting QVAR. Bronchospasm should be treated with a rescue inhaler like albuterol.
Some of the most common side effects of QVAR may include:
