What is a Generic Drug?

Description

Rydapt (midostaurin) is a prescription medication that is used with other treatments for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that has been newly diagnosed in adults. It is also prescribed for the treatment of aggressive systemic mastocytosis (ASM), systemic mastocytosis with associated hematologic neoplasm (SM-AHN), or mast cell leukemia (MCL) in adults.

Rydapt comes in 25 mg capsules for oral administration.

Directions

Rydapt should be taken as your healthcare provider has instructed. Read the medication guide that accompanies your prescription for product use information.

AML recommended dosing: Take 50 mg by mouth twice daily; take with food.

ASM, SM-AHN, and MCL recommended dosing: Take 100 mg by mouth twice daily; take with food

Rydapt capsules should be stored in their original container at room temperature between 68°F and 77°F (20°C and 25°C) and away from children.

Ingredients

Midostaurin is the active ingredient in Rydapt.

Carmine, corn oil mono-di-triglycerides, dehydrated alcohol, ferric oxide red, ferric oxide yellow, gelatin, glycerin 85%, hypromellose 2910, polyethylene glycol 400, polyoxyl 40 hydrogenated castor oil, propylene glycol, purified water, titanium dioxide, and vitamin E are the inactive ingredients.

Contraindications

Rydapt should not be given to patients with an allergy to any of its ingredients.

Cautions

  • Before you start begin treatment with Rydapt, inform your healthcare provider:
    • Of all the medications you take, including prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, herbals, and supplements
    • Of your allergies
    • Of your current health problems
    • Of your past medical history
    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Harm to a fetus can occur with Rypdapt use. Females of childbearing potential and males with female partners who are of childbearing potential should be advised to use effective contraceptive methods during treatment with Rydapt and for 4 months after receiving the final dose.
  • Potentially fatal pulmonary toxicity can occur.
  • Breastfeeding is not advised.

Side Effects

Rydapt side effects include but are not limited to low white blood cell counts, nausea, sore or inflamed mouth or gut, vomiting, headache, bleeding spots under the skin, musculoskeletal pain, nose bleeds, device-related infection, high blood sugar, abnormal heart rhythms, upper respiratory tract infections, swelling, fatigue, constipation, shortness of breath, and fever. Inform your healthcare provider of any worrisome or persistent side effects you experience.
