Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Simcor is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor and niacin combination used to lower high cholesterol and triglycerides in certain patients. It also increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL, "good") cholesterol levels. It is used along with an appropriate diet. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Follow the directions for using Simcor provided by your doctor. TAKE SIMCOR BY MOUTH AT BEDTIME with a low-fat snack (such as low-fat yogurt, banana, crackers with a glass of low-fat milk), unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Taking Simcor with a low-fat snack may reduce flushing and stomach upset from Simcor. Do not drink alcohol or hot drinks or eat spicy foods around the time you take Simcor. This may also help to reduce the risk of flushing. Taking an aspirin or a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) (such as ibuprofen) 30 minutes before you take Simcor 500-20mg may also help to reduce the risk of flushing. Check with your doctor for more information. SWALLOW SIMCOR WHOLE. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. IF YOU TAKE CHOLESTYRAMINE OR COLESTIPOL, take Simcor at least 4 to 6 hours after you take cholestyramine or colestipol. STORE SIMCOR at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), in a tightly closed container, away from heat, moisture and light. KEEP SIMCOR out of the reach of children and away from pets. Take Simcor on a regular schedule to get the most benefit from it. Taking Simcor at the same time each day will help you remember to take it. CONTINUE TO USE SIMCOR even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF SIMCOR, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Simcor include back pain, constipation, diarrhea, flushing (such as dizziness, itching, redness, tingling, warmth), headache, nausea, runny or stuffy nose, or stomach upset. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience change in amount of urine produced; dark urine; severe or persistent dizziness or lightheadedness; fast or irregular heartbeat; fainting; fever; joint pain; memory problems; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness; numbness or persistent tingling of the hands or feet; pale stools; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; severe or persistent nausea or stomach pain; swelling of the hands, legs, or feet; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness, discomfort, or weakness; vision changes; or yellowing of the eyes or skin. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Simcor is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider.
