Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Skelaxin (Metaxalone) is a skeletal muscle relaxant used to relieve discomfort from acute musculoskeletal conditions. It acts by blocking nerve impulses that send pain signals to the brain. This medication is typically used alongside rest and physical therapy. Metaxalone is available in tablet form.
The recommended Skelaxin dosage for adults and adolescents aged 13 and older is 800 mg taken three to four times daily, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole with a full glass of water, without crushing or chewing them. If you notice side effects after taking this medication following a high-fat meal, consider taking it on an empty stomach or after a lighter meal instead.
The active ingredient in Skelaxin is Metaxalone.
Avoid taking or using this medication if any of the following apply:
Skelaxin may cause mild side effects, including drowsiness, dizziness, headache, and feelings of nervousness or irritability. Some people also experience nausea, vomiting, or general stomach discomfort. These reactions are usually temporary and resolve as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or become bothersome, consult a healthcare provider.
Though rare, serious side effects of Skelaxin include allergic reactions such as rash, itching, or swelling, and more severe reactions like anaphylaxis. Other serious effects may involve jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), changes in blood cell levels (leukopenia or hemolytic anemia), or serotonin syndrome, particularly when used with other serotonergic drugs. If you notice unusual symptoms like confusion, fever, severe muscle stiffness, or rapid heart rate, stop using Skelaxin and seek immediate medical attention.
