Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Tasigna, also known as Nilotinib Hydrochloride, is a targeted cancer therapy. It belongs to a class of drugs called tyrosine kinase inhibitors. These drugs work by blocking specific proteins involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells. Tasigna comes in capsules, available in 50 mg, 150 mg, and 200 mg strengths. This medication treats adults and some children with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). It is particularly used in those who are newly diagnosed or resistant to prior therapies.
Tasigna is a medication that comes in capsule form and is taken by mouth. It should be taken twice a day, about 12 hours apart. It's important to take the capsules on an empty stomach, which means you shouldn't eat for at least two hours before and one hour after taking them. For adults who have just been diagnosed with a specific type of blood cancer called Ph+ Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, the typical dose is 300 mg taken twice daily. If someone has already tried other treatments without success, their doctor may change the Tasigna dosing based on how they respond or any side effects they experience.
The active ingredient in Tasigna is Nilotinib Hydrochloride.
Individuals should avoid taking or using this medication if any of the following apply:
Tasigna can cause side effects like rash, itching, headache, nausea, fatigue, and muscle pain. Other common issues include constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain, and hair loss. Blood-related side effects such as low platelet count, low white blood cell count, and anemia may also occur and require regular blood tests. Most side effects are mild to moderate and can usually be managed without stopping the medication.
Serious side effects can include bone marrow suppression and heart rhythm changes. There may also be cardiovascular problems like blocked arteries and high blood pressure. It's important to watch for signs of pancreatitis, liver issues (like yellowing of the skin), and electrolyte imbalances. Tasigna may increase the risk of serious skin reactions or bleeding. Symptoms such as severe chest pain, fainting, irregular heartbeat, or swelling should be reported to a doctor right away.
