What is a Generic Drug?

Ingredients

Triamcinolone acetonide is the active ingredient in Triesence.

Contraindications

Triesence should not be administered to patients with systemic fungal infections, infections in or around the eye, or who are allergic to triamcinolone or any of the medication’s other ingredients.

Cautions

  • Before you begin Triesence injection, discuss the following with your doctor:
    • All the medications you use, including eye products
    • Your allergies
    • Your existing health conditions
    • Your previous medical history
    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Triesence is associated with the following warnings and precautions:
    • Effects of the eye, including cataracts, glaucoma, or infections
    • High blood sugar, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, and Cushing’s syndrome
    • Increased susceptibility to infection and worsening, spreading, or reactivation of latent infection
    • High blood pressure, salt and water retention, and low blood potassium levels
    • Gastrointestinal (GI) perforation; the risk is greater in patients who have certain GI disorders
    • Euphoria, mood swings, sleep problems, personality changes, severe depression, psychosis, or other mood and behavioral problems
    • Reduced bone mineral density
    • Avoid live or live attenuated vaccinations while receiving Triesence
    • Negative developmental and growth effects; monitoring should occur in pediatric patients receiving long-term corticosteroid therapy
    • Potential harm to an unborn baby with first trimester use
    • Appetite and weight increase

Side Effects

Triesence side effects include but are not limited to eye disorders, increased intraocular pressure, endophthalmitis and progression of cataracts.
