Xospata should be taken as your healthcare provider has directed.

Recommended dosing: 120 mg by mouth one time a day.

Ingredients

Gilteritinib is the active ingredient in Xospata.

Ferric oxide, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose, mannitol, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, talc, and titanium dioxide are the inactive ingredients.

Contraindications

Xospata should not be given to patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients; anaphylaxis has been observed in clinical trials.

Cautions

  • Xospata is associated with the following FDA Boxed Warning:
    • Symptoms of differentiation syndrome can occur, which can cause death if not treated.
    • If differentiation syndrome is suspected, therapy with a corticosteroid and hemodynamic monitoring should be initiated.
  • Before you begin receiving Xospata, the following should be discussed with your healthcare provider:
    • All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take, including vitamins, herbals, and supplements
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health problems
    • Your past medical history
    • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • The following can occur with Xospata use:
    • Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome
    • An irregular heart rhythm called prolonged QT interval
    • Pancreatitis
    • Fetal harm; therefore, females of childbearing age should use effective contraceptive methods during Xospata treatment and for 6 months after taking the final dose. Males with female partners who are of childbearing age are advised to use effective contraceptive methods during Xospata treatment and for 4 months after the final dose.
  • Breastfeeding is not advised.

Side Effects

Xospata side effects include but are not limited to increased liver enzymes, muscle and joint pain, fatigue, general discomfort, fever, sore and inflamed mouth or gut, swelling, rash, noninfectious diarrhea, shortness of breath, nausea, cough, constipation, eye disorders, headache, dizziness, low blood pressure, vomiting, and kidney problems. Inform your healthcare provider of any worrisome or persistent side effects that you experience.
