What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

Description

Yupelri (revefenacin) inhalation solution is a prescription medication used for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Yupelri comes in a 175 mcg/3 mL inhalation solution.

Directions

Yupelri should be used as your doctor has prescribed.

Recommended dosage: use one 175 mcg vial one time a day with a standard jet nebulizer with a mouthpiece connected to an air compressor. Do not swallow or inject Yupelri.

Yupelri should be kept in its protective foil pouch and stored between 68°F and 77°F (20°C and 25°C). Protect from light and keep out of children’s reach. You should only remove the Yupelri vial from its foil pouch and open immediately before using. Appropriately dispose of the vial and any remaining contents after use. Properly dispose if the solution is not clear and colorless.

Ingredients

Revefenacin is the active ingredient in Yupelri.

Sodium chloride, citric acid, sodium citrate, and water for injection are the inactive ingredients. Hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide may be added for adjusting pH.

Contraindications

Yupelri should not be used in patients with an allergy to any of its ingredients.

Cautions

  • Before you start treatment with Yupelri, inform your doctor:
    • About all the prescription and nonprescription medications the you take
    • About your allergies
    • About your current health issues
    • About your past medical history
    • Of your status of pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Yupelri is associated with the following warnings and precautions:
    • Patients with acutely deteriorating COPD or with acute symptoms should not use Yupelri for these events.
    • If paradoxical bronchospasm occurs, Yupelri should be discontinued; an alternative therapy should be initiated.
    • Worsening of narrow-angle glaucoma and urinary retention
    • If immediate hypersensitivity reactions occur, Yupelri should be discontinued; alternative therapies should be considered.

Side Effects

Yupelri side effects include but are not limited to cough, nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infection, headache, and back pain.

Immediately tell your doctor if you have bothersome or persistent side effects.
