How Expensive is Vraylar?

There are a whole lot of people moving from an iPhone 13 to a 14 right now, and despite it just being one generation’s worth of improvement they’ll be telling themselves they absolutely have to own the new one. To each their own, and few people if any are going to be critical of excessive consumerism in today’s society. But that upgrade is going to come with a significant cost, and the truth of the matter is that you don’t need a new smartphone. But people are going to need to take their medication, and that’s very true if you have bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. So how expensive is Vraylar?

It's not that people choose to focus on the price of things, and with a new phone purchase it’s just as much status as it is for experience for most people. Far different scenario if you have a very serious mental health disorder, and with the two mentioned above they have the ability to take your life right off the tracks if you don’t get the treatment you need. It’s a darn good thing that pharmacology has produced medications like Vraylar and Saphris to give these people the help they need.

What’s not good at all is the way that the cost of Rx medication in American has skyrocketed in the last two decades, and it’s a trend that continues to pick up steam as some drugs seem to cost more and more. You might say the same goes for consumer electronics, but not to the same extent and let’s remember that no one needs a new phone. But if you have a severe mental health disorder then you will absolutely need to be taking the medication your doctor suggests for you.

Let’s get right to how expensive is Vraylar and be prepared to be somewhat shocked to learn that without insurance coverage, 30 of the capsules may cost you nearly as much as that new iPhone 14.

A thousand dollars is no small chunk of change, and that’s true even if you’re wealthy enough to be able to afford anything you want all the time. Few people are like that, a lot of the time expenditures are discretionary spending. Buying medication and having prescriptions filled isn’t discretionary at all, and the cost for Vraylar is around $1300 USD for 30 of the 1.5mg capsules. A person’s dosage will depend on the severity of schizophrenia symptoms and how well they’ve responded to any treatment to this point. How expensive is Vraylar? Those who need to take one capsule a day will have the drug costing more than $1200 annually.

That’s going to be intimidating for nearly anyone, and even more so for anyone that isn’t able to have a copay arrangement for their medication. Some people will have that through their employer’s health insurance, and in any case where medication is super expensive it is a godsend much of the time. Finding out how expensive is Vraylar can be really troubling for people, but it is so needed when a person needs to find balance in their brain. The bigger picture problem is that many Rx medications have become extremely expensive in America.

There are many reasons for that, and we’ve touched on many of them in other blog entries here. In both Canada and the USA healthcare is overseen at the Federal level, and so the prices for medications will be consistent for the most part no matter which State or Province you live in. Yes, the US dollar is always stronger than the Canadian one but it is not nearly enough to make up the massive difference in cost for medications.
